USNS Comet (T-LSV-7) (Source: www.naviarmatori.net) The Comet was originally placed in service in 1958 under the control of the Military Sealift Command as Cargo Ship USNS Comet T-AK-269. In January 1963 it was redesignated as Vehicle Landing Ship T-LSV-7. In 1969, the Comet was again redesignated, this time as Vehicle Cargo Ship (Roll-on/Roll-off) SS Comet AKR-7.
